Meet Our Veterinarians


  • Dr.
    Heidi Wendel
    DVM, MPH
    Veterinarian, Owner

    Dr. Heidi Wendel graduated from Hilton High School.  She attended The Ohio State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Sciences and a Master’s Degree in Public Health.  She continued her veterinary education at The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2010.

    In 1998 she began working at Apple Country Veterinary Hospital as a kennel assistant and maintained employment throughout high-school and during college breaks.  In 2010 she returned to Apple Country as a veterinarian.  In December of 2014 she and Dr. Snyder opened Erie Canal Animal Hospital in Spencerport. Her professional interests include surgery, preventive medicine and ultrasound.  She is certified in Feaer Free Veterinary Practices.  Dr. Wendel is a member of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association.      

    Outside of work she enjoys cooking, gardening and home renovation projects.  She lives in Hilton with her husband, daughter and son.  They have a Bernese Mountain Dog, two cats, a horse and a bearded dragon.

    Meagan Elliott
    DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Meagan Elliott was born and raised in Martin, TN. She attended college at the University of Kentucky where she played softball for 4 years and studied Agricultural and Medical Biotechnology. Post college Dr. Elliott had the opportunity to continue her softball career professionally or continue her veterinary education by attending the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She elected to hang up her cleats, and was awarded her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2022. Dr. Elliott enjoys interacting and building connections with people, and animals are the perfect gateway to those relationships. 

     
    Outside of work she enjoys exploring Upstate New York by hiking, trying local breweries, and attending different sporting events.  So far Dr. Elliott’s favorite adventure has been exploring the Finger Lakes region and the numerous wine trails it has to offer. Dr. Elliott lives in Rochester with her husband and their corgi, Dietz.

    Debra Hartman
    DVM
    Veterinarian

    Growing up on a small family farm in Michigan, Dr Hartman started learning about animals at an early age. She began working toward her goal of Veterinary medicine while still in high school, volunteering as a veterinary assistant for a local mixed animal practice. After graduating from Michigan State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, Dr. Hartman moved to Rochester where she has lived and practiced for 35 years. 

    Dr Hartman’s professional interests include feline medicine, geriatric care, and “fear free” treatment methods. When she is not at the hospital, Dr Hartman enjoys water skiing, gardening, and the outdoors. In addition, she also she enjoys spending time with wildlife or her dog, cats, ducks, and fish.

    Dean Snyder
    DVM, PE
    Veterinarian In Memoriam | 1960-2020

    Dr. Snyder passed away in March of 2020. We miss him every day, but work to honor his legacy by maintaining the quality service and friendly atmosphere that he strived to provide since 1996.

    Dr. Dean Snyder became a practicing veterinarian after receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 1994 and subsequently completing a 13 month internship. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, graduating from Clarkson University in 1984 and working at Harris Corp., R.F Communications as a Lead Mechanical Engineer and Program Manager responsible for Department of Defense programs dealing with USAF.

    In 1976, he began working for Dr. James D. Nundy as a kennel assistant and continued that job until high school graduation.  Dr. Nundy and his wife Dorothy were mentors and role models contributing greatly to Dr. Snyder's personal and professional success. In 1996, he completed renovations on Dr. Nundy's hospital and opened Apple Country Veterinary Hospital and Boarding. 

    In 2014, he finished construction on the building that is home to Erie Canal Animal Hospital that was opened with his partner Dr. Heidi Wendel in Spencerport, N.Y.

    He was active as a member of the Genesee Valley Veterinary Medical Association Executive Board for 15 years, serving as a two term President and Ethics Committee Chairman representing veterinarians in the counties of Monroe and Orleans.  This same organization recognized him as Veterinarian of the Year in 2012.   He also served as President of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, representing all the veterinarians in New York State.  He was recognized with a NYSVMS Merit Award by his peers for his volunteer work as Chairman of the NYSVMS Grassroots Legislative Network and Chairman of the NYSVMS Continuing Education Committee.  He continued to volunteer as a member of the NYSVMS Board of Directors, Management Relations, Finance/ Audit and Government Relations Committees.

    Dr. Snyder was a New York State Certified Logger and enjoyed spending time in the woods of Cattaraugus County.  He had designed a timber frame hybrid camp and with the help of his father, was felling and sawing hemlock trees into timbers to be used in its construction. In his spare time he enjoyed reading, woodworking, and had interests in Veterinary Dentistry, beekeeping, and yoga.

    Staceyann Doobar
    DVM
    Veterinarian, Urgent Care Medical Director

    Dr. Doobar is originally from New York City, where she graduated from the City College of New York with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biochemistry. Upon graduation she joined a Neurobiology research laboratory at Columbia University Medical Center before deciding to become a veterinarian. She received her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University in 2016 and then completed a rotating small animal internship at Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Services for more intensive training. She has enjoyed working as an emergency veterinarian and has now decided to offer Urgent Care services to the community in a time of need and to bridge the gap between general practice and emergency care, with the help of the Erie Canal Animal Hospital team. Dr. Doobar enjoys educating her clients to improve the lives and health of their pets and always advocating for her patients.  She is a member of the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the American Veterinary Medical Society, and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society. 

    Dr. Doobar has four dogs and in her free time, enjoys spending time with her pups, volunteering at her local animal shelter, enjoying all things coffee-related, helping at a local Rabies clinic, and cooking.

  • Dr.
    Molly Doubet
    DVM
    Veterinarian

    Dr. Molly Doubet graduated from Cortland High School before continuing her education to get a bachelor’s in biology at Wells College in Aurora, NY. At Wells, Dr. Doubet played lacrosse and started raising Guiding Eye dogs with her family. She then decided to travel to Europe, ending up in Ireland where she attended University College Dublin. Dr. Doubet was awarded her degree in Veterinary Medicine in June 2023 after living in Ireland for four years. She loves getting to interact with new people and helping to change their lives for the better by taking care of their pets.

    Aside from work, she loves to do anything outside with her yellow Labrador, Lingo, and fiancée. On rainy days, she enjoys sitting inside with her cat, Jack, reading or baking. Dr. Doubet also has a special interest in goat and sheep medicine after working with them daily while in Ireland.
